DUBAI (UAE): Parthiv Shaw shone with the bat with a sparkling 50 that helped Delhi Capitals beat Chennai Super Kings by 44 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here on Friday.
Chasing 176 for victory, Chennai finished at 131 for 7 in 20 overs after their opponents had put up a fighting 175 for three.
Shaw slammed eight boundaries on his way to score his fifth IPL career fifty and took 35 deliveries to reach the milestone.
Two of those boundaries came in the ninth over against leg spinner Piyush Chawla, who he shot on both the occasion through the cover region.
The batsman also had luck factor on his side as a mistake from none other than CSK skipper MS Dhoni allowed Shaw to continue his innings.
Dhoni was not in his element after he took a clean catch of Shaw but failed to realise that the Mumbai batsman has knicked the ball.
“I don’t think it was a good game for us. The wicket did slow down a bit, there was no dew, but I think we are lacking steam in the batting department. We need to figure that out,” said Dhoni. “The break in the nest seven days is the best chance we could get: give them match simulation and look for the right balance.”
Delhi Capitals, who have never reached the IPL final in 12 attempts, will look to win their first title in the competition after a fine campaign last season.
After changing their name from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals, their fortunes in the tournament improved as they reached the playoffs in IPL 2019.
“If you look at the bowling department, they are not all consistent. We are one batsman heavy, and we can only think of getting one more bowler, we need some signs that they can take the extra load. Rayudu should play the next match so he gives us the room to experiment with the extra bowler,” said Dhoni, who scored 12 off 15 balls.
