ADELAIDE (Australia): India crashed to their lowest-ever score of 36 as Australia ran riot to win the opening Test in Adelaide by eight wickets on Saturday.
Despite the defeat, Indian captain Virat Kohli said they could fix their problems before the second Test in Melbourne next week.
“I definitely would have loved it if we had won this game, with me leaving, but this is Test cricket and anything can happen at any stage,” said Kohli.
“I am confident that the team is going to bounce back strong in Melbourne and a few of the guys are going to realise their true characters and how they can step up for the team.”
The visitors started the third day of the pink-ball Test on nine for one and with a 62-run lead, looking to build a competitive second innings total.
But their hopes were left in tatters on a wicket with bounce and deviation, as Josh Hazlewood took 5-8, including his 200th Test wicket, and Pat Cummins 4-21.
Set 90 to win, Australia lost two wickets in the chase, with Joe Burns unbeaten on 51.
“I don’t think we have ever had a worse batting performance so we can only go upwards from here,” added Kohli.
