CALCUTTA (India): Former champions Mohun Bagan picked up their first win in the I-League by beating Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) FC 4-0 at the Kalyani Stadium near here on Wednesday.
Fran Gonzalez scored twice (5th & 46th minutes) while Suhair VP (38’) and Subha Ghosh (90’) were the other scorers for the Mariners, who had just one point from their previous two matches.
Trinidadian centre-back Daniel Cyrus had set up Fran following a corner, and the Spaniard beat goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh with grounded shot to give Bagan the lead.
Fran then picked up right-back Ashutosh Mehta, who crossed the ball for Suhair to increase the lead.
The 30-year-old Cordoba-born striker added his team’s third to shut out the debutant side.
Subha, who was brought on as substitute for the second game, got his second in as many games and Bagan’s fourth when he headed home.
TRAU did make a couple of changes, bringing on Krishnananda and Emeka in the second half to bolster his forward line.
However, other than a couple of golden chances which fell to Denechandram Meetie on the hour mark and Brazilian Marcel Sacramento in the 79th minute, they lacked killer instinct.
Bagan now have four points from three games while the Manipur side are yet to open their account.
