CALCUTTA (India): Former champions Mohun Bagan will look to turn the tide against Gokulam Kerala FC in the I-League here at the Kalyani Stadium on Monday.
The kick off is at 5 PM.
The Kerala side enjoys an all-win record from their two games so far and are well organized while Bagan redeemed themselves with a 4-0 victory over debutants TRAU FC in the previous game
Ugandan frontman Henry Kisekka and Trinidadian striker Marcus Joseph have scored all of Gokulam’s three goals so far and are their standout performers by a mile while Trinidadian Nathaniel Garcia will be another player to watch out for.
“Mohun Bagan are a very competitive side. We must focus on the match to beat them. The league has just begun and we must continue to improve,” said Gokulam’s Spanish coach Fernando Varela
For the hosts, this will be their final game before next Sunday’s big ‘derby’ against arch-rivals East Bengal.
They would hope to carry on the momentum into that clash — one of world football’s biggest derby games.
Bagan have shown signs of improvement in the last two matches. They lost a high-scoring entertaining game against Churchill Brothers, but bounced back with a confident win against TRAU.
Their new find of the season seemed to be the young Subha Ghosh, who came off the bench to score in two successive games.
Bagan’s Spanish coach Kibu Vicuna brushed aside his side’s previous result against Gokulam in the Durand Cup final, which they lost.
“It’s a different game tomorrow. That match was very even. We didn’t take advantage of the chances. We know that we have a difficult game, but we are prepared to win three points,” said Kibu.
