CALCUTTA (India): Mohun Bagan maintained their winning run in the I-League with another confident 1-0 victory over Punjab FC 1-0 on Sunday.
Senegalese forward Baba Diawara headed home in the 42nd minute to seal Bagan’s eighth win from nine matches.
The Mariners are now nine points clear of Punjab with 26 points from 11 matches.
Playing their final I-League season, Mohun Bagan, who will compete in the Indian Super League from 2020-21 as a merged team with ATK, are now unbeaten from nine matches.
The goal culminated after Dhanachandra Singh sent in a long throw-in which was headed in to the top left corner by Diawara.
Punjab got a golden chance to draw level Seven minutes later, but Dipanda Dicka’s shot over from inside the box.
Bagan scored their second goal at the hour mark through Fran Morante but it was disallowed by referee for offside.
But Beitia could have scored one for himself if the Real Sociedad youth product did not fluff two chances from point-blank range.
