DOHA (Qatar): Ten nations won different apparatus titles as Olympic qualification came to an end at the 13th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup at Aspire Dome on Saturday.
Among the top gymnasts who qualified included Japan’s Hidenobu Yonekura (Vault), 2016 Olympic champion Eleftherios Petrounias (rings) and 2006 World All-Around champion Vanessa Ferrari (ITA), who earned her fourth Olympics ticket.
The Doha leg was specifically designed by FIG for individual specialists and was applicable to those who couldn’t qualify to the Games through the 2018-2019 World Championships. Before heading into the MAG vault final, South Korea’s Shin Jeahwan led the overall rankings.
Both Petrounias and Ferrari stamped their tickets to Tokyo as the 2018-2020 FIG Apparatus World Cup ended this weekend here ending a three-year odyssey for specialists seeking Olympic qualification through the Apparatus World Cup series.
