CALCUTTA (India): Virat Kohli led Indian cricket team to an emphatic innings victory over Bangladesh in the first Test in Indore on Saturday.
This was India’s sixth consecutive win in the longest format of the game.
The hosts wrapped up the game inside three days, handing the visitors a huge defeat by an innings and 130 runs on Day 3.
But Kohli said he wasn’t really bothered about the numbers as improving the side has been his prime target.
“Numbers in the records are there for everyone to see. There’s something that remain in the books. Our focus has been to take Indian cricket higher and higher,” said Kohli.
India registered their 10th victory by an innings under Kohli. It took him past MS Dhoni to become the Indian captain with most innings wins under his name.
“The motivation and the intent has been right. We just want to keep pushing,” added Kohli.
Mohammad Azharuddin and Sourav Ganguly are third and fourth in the list with eight and seven innings wins under their names respectively.
Rahul Dravid, Kapil Dev and Polly Umrigar have all won two matches by an innings while leading India in the longest format of the game.
With six wins in six matches and 300 points, India now have extended their lead at the top of the World Test Championship.
“Our focus is to keep the standards up. In that process we’ve more Test matches than any other side that makes us feel good,” said Kohli.
The second and final match is a day-night clash, with India hosting their first-ever pink-ball Test here at the Eden Gardens from November 22.
