Kuwait City: Palestine midfielder Oday Dabbagh said his biggest ambition is to win the AFC Asian Cup title.
“I dream of winning the AFC Asian Cup title with Palestine,” Dabbagh told the-AFC.com. “On an individual level, I hope that I can be one of the players that can bring joy to Palestinian fans in all competitions.”
After helping the Palestine U-23 team reach the quarter-finals of the 2018 U-23 Championship by scoring three goals, Dabbagh featured in two matches in the Asian Cup UAE 2019 Finals before scoring against Uzbekistan in Group D of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and Asian Cup China 2023.
Dabbagh’s breakthrough came just months after the Asian Cup last year as he moved to Kuwait after signing for four-time Kuwait league champions Al Salmiya in July 2019.
The midfielder then joined Al Salmiya rivals Al Qadsia just days into 2020 but his move lasted only two months as he suffered a fractured pelvis in a friendly match against his previous club.
“I was not lucky enough,” said the 21-year-old. “I was injured following a perfect start with my former club Al Salmiya and after moving to Qadsia SC, I suffered another injury.
“However, I managed to score in my first match with both teams,” added Dabbagh, who is recovering from injury with football on a hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (Source: AFC)
