DOHA (Qatar): The 34th edition of Qatar Open Amateur Championship will be held at Doha Golf Club (DGC) from February 20- 22.
The championship acts as a qualifying for the pro tournament – the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters which be held at the Education City Golf Course in March.
The Qatar Golf Association (QGA) General-Secretary Fahad Nasser Al Naimi said, “The championship has come a long way since its inception in 1983 when it was contested over a sand course in Umm Said to become an international tournament qualifying tournament for the Qatar Masters.”
Eight Qatari players: Saleh al Kaabi, Ali al Shahraniy, Abdurahman al Shahrani, Jaham al Kuwari, Fahad Rizwan, Abdelaziz al Muhannadi, Abdelaziz al Boainainm Ghanim al Kuwari will play in the championship.
The tournament format will be 54-Hole Strokeplay. Half the field plus ties after 36 holes will advance to round three. The handicap limit is 9.Qatar Open Amateur Golf 2020
“Such is the quality of field that the Qatar Open Amateur Championship now attracts, that the winner is offered an exemption into the Qatar Masters – a flagship European Tour event that lists major champions as past winners,” he added.
Tournament Director Mohammed Faisal Al Naimi said, “The total number of entries is 105 including 30 from overseas. Top three Professionals and the leading Amateur will qualify for CB Qatar Masters.”
