DOHA (Qatar): The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) was praised by top international officials and players for delivering a highly successful FIBA 3×3 World Tour Doha Masters despite the challenges due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The QBF hosted as many as 14 teams during the two-day event, which witnessed thrilling matches with team Riga (Latvia) retaining their title. The competition, which was held by implementing all the health protocols strictly, was also hailed as a blockbuster by the participating teams’ players.
HE Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani, First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and President of the FIBA Asia, who crowned the winners was impressed with the organisation of the event and praised the organisers for their hardwork in the success of the event.
He said Qatar gained a lot from hosting the world tour and added that the great praise from the officials of the international federation is what pleased him most in terms of the distinguished organisation as well as a large audience in the tournament.
Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation Ahmed Al Muftah, and Director of 3×3 Events at FIBA Ignacio Soriano also gave thumbs up to the QBF for organising the event in a befitting manner.
President of the Qatar Basketball Federation Ahmed Al Muftah expressed his happiness with the success of the Doha tour both at the technical and organisational level, noting that everyone enjoyed the atmosphere and the high technical levels presented by some of the world’s best players in these competitions.
He pointed out that Qatar’s representative in the championship (Lusail) presented a distinguished level, hoping that their participation in the next round would be in better conditions to reach the best possible results.
Al Muftah noted that the International Basketball Federation family praised the organization of the tour in all aspects, and stressed that this tour is the best, as they were very impressed by the atmosphere in which it was held, as well as the large audience that contributed to its success and its organization in a very distinctive way.
Soriano said FIBA relishes partnership with Qatar.
“We see Qatar as a solid partner for 3×3 and our association dates back to 2013. We have contract for one more year with another tournament in 2021,” said Soriano.
“We know that Qatar Basketball Federation and the Qatar Olympic Committee have great plans for 3×3 in the country,” he added.
