DOHA (Qatar): The Qatar Golf Association (QGA) recently held a series of meeting with the European Tour and Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), Qatar, on the health protocols ahead of next year’s Qatar Masters.
The event is on the European Tour calendar and a blueriband golf competition in the region
“We had a series of online meetings with the European Tour officials. They’ve briefed us on the health protocols to be followed in respect of players, officials and guests,” Mike Shoueiry, Technical Director at QGA told KHEL UPDATES.
The European Tour has set a mid-March 2021 date for the event, but a host of health protocols will needed to be followed and adhered during the tournament.
The prestigious will be staged for the second successive year at the Education City Golf Club course while Doha Golf Club had hosted the event for the last 23 years.
Besides the European Tour, Shoueiry said the MOPH will have to give them the green signal to host the tournament.
“The MOPH officials have visited the venue and we had a detailed discussion. They have also asked us to furnish detailed plans in terms of temporary stands for guests. They want to make sure that everybody is safe and the tournament is played in a safe environment in terms of health,” he added.
The federation are aware of the huge task they have on hand with the QGA officials led by President Hassan Al Naimi and
General Secretary Fahad Al Naimi working overtime to make it happen.
QCA will also be hosting the Qatar Open Amateur championship.
“We need a lot of preparation to get the competition going. Events of this caliber and magnitude needs to be prepared way ahead of time,” said Shoueiry.
Around 500 to 600 people is expected be visiting Qatar during the competition.
“We have about five to six hundred people will be coming into Qatar in March, so they will have to be in the Bio Bubble and the guidelines of both European Tour and the Ministry of Public health will have to be adhered to by all people,” he added.
