DOHA (Qatar): The first round of the six-leg remodeled Qatar Off-road Championship will take place on February 5 and 6, Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) announced on Sunday.
This year’s championship, which was earlier called as Qatar National Baja series will be mixture of Enduro and Baja.
“The first three rounds are going to be Enduro and the last three rounds is going to be Baja,” said QMMF Executive Director Amro Al Hamad. “The Qatar Off-road Championship will be a six-round event. The first round in February, the second leg in March, followed by two rounds in October and the second-last round in November and the final round in December.”
“It will be a mix of Enduro and Baja competition rounds. The points for Enduro and Baja will be accumulated. The sixth and final round will be an extended Baja than usual and double points will be awarded,” said the former driver, who competed in some of the top events around the world from 2006 to 2016.
New logo…
QMMF has also unveiled a new logo for the championship which has Qatari elements incorporated in it.
“The logo has been designed by our new QMMF employee Ghadeer Al Khayat. It reflects the Qatari culture and has a lot of Qatari characteristics,” added Amro.
The competition will be held over a period of ten months, with the curtains coming down on the championship in December
The second round will be held on March 19 and 20 and the next round will be held after a gap of six months in the month of October (8 and 9th) followed by the fourth round on October 15 and 16.
The penultimate round will take place on November 12 and 13 and the final round on December 3 and 4.
