DOHA (Qatar): Umm Salal shocked Al Rayyan 3-2 in the QNB Stars League at the Qatar SC Stadium on Saturday.
Ahmed Hammoudan (18th minute) and captain Lawrence Quaye (45th minute) scored the goals for Umm Salal in the first half, with Kayke Rodrigues (72nd) adding another in the second session.
Substitutes Mowafak Awad (87th minute) and Ali Ferydoon (90+3) scored for Al Rayyan.
Umm Salal’s Ibrahim Elsadig was sent off in the 74th minute.
Umm Salal moved on to 18 points with the victory while Al Rayyan stayed on 34 points.
Both teams had played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg of 2020-21 QNB Stars League.
Umm Salal started on a positive note, creating gaps to attack Al Rayyan and not let them take early control of the match. In the first 10 minutes, The Orange Fortress had already made several attacks.
Al Rayyan made first shot on target in the 15th minute when Abdulrahman Al Harazi attempted to score after receiving a cross from Mohammed Alaaeldin, but Umm Salal keeper Baba Malick comfortably picked the ball.
Three minutes later, Hammoudan volleyed a corner kick from close range to stun Al Rayyan, giving Umm Salal the lead.
The Lions, seeking a leveller, made several attacks including a hit from a distance by captain Yacine Brahimi that just sailed over the crossbar.
Umm Salal were responding well with counterattacks and could have got their second goal 10 minutes before half-time, but Ismail Mahmoud missed a chance after receiving a superb pass from Kayke Rodrigues.
