DOHA (Qatar): Two-time Olympian Rashid Saleh Hamad and Tokyo Olympic Games participant Mohammed Al Rumaihi are among the top shooters who will be seen in action at the ISSF Shotgun Grand Prix in Rabat, Morocco.
The competition, which starts tomorrow, is included in the 2021 world ranking and the shooters will aim for qualification points for this year’s Tokyo Olympic Games.
Al Rumaihi, who has already qualified in Trap event for Tokyo, will compete alongside Nasser Al Hemaidi, Rashid Al Athba and Saeed Abusharib in the men’s section while Noura Al Ali will compete in the women’s individual trap and mixed team events.
Reem Al Sharshani, who won skeet gold at the Qatar Shooting and Archery Cup last Saturday, is the other women shooter.
Rashid, two-time Olympian, was happy that he will get a chance to compete in international competitions after a long layoff.
“I am happy that finally we are getting a chance to take part in an international competition. I am excited and eager to give my best,” said the 34-year-old, who represented Qatar at the 2008 and 2016 Olympic Games.
Rashid has been in top form in the local events for the last three months. He picked up a gold and silver in last November’s Amir Cup and finished fourth at the Qatar Shooting and Archery Cup, which concludes on Friday.
Besides Rashid and Reem, Ali Al Mannai, Ali Ahmed Al Ishaq and Mohammed Ahmed Al Kuwari are the other Skeet shooters.
The individual events of Skeet in both the men’s and women’s section will take place on Saturday while the Trap will be held on Wednesday while the mixed team event will be on the concluding day (February 5).
The Morocco event will kick start the 2021 season which will be followed by ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Egypt (Feb 22-March 5) while the season’s first ISSF World Cup will start on March 18 in New Delhi, India, and Changwon, South Korea, will host the other one on April 16.
