DOHA: Seven-time Middle East Rally Champion co-driver Nasser Saadon Al-Kuwari has officially announced his retirement, bringing an end to an illustrious 25-year career in motorsports.
The Qatari rally star described the decision as the “most difficult” of his life, having dedicated decades to representing his country at the highest level.
“I have decided to retire from my motorsports career after spending the past 25 years in rally cars,” Al-Kuwari shared in an emotional Instagram post on Monday night.
Stepping away from the co-driver’s seat, Al-Kuwari now looks forward to spending more time with his family after a relentless career on the road.
One of the most decorated co-drivers in Middle Eastern rally history, Al-Kuwari leaves behind an incredible legacy, boasting 10 Qatar Rally Championship titles, six Kuwait Rally wins, and numerous regional and international accolades.
Al Kuwari’s retirement marks the end of an impressive 25-year career in motorsport, where he left a significant legacy in rally racing across the Middle East.
Even in his final year, 2025, he showcased his talent with a fourth-place finish in the Challenger class at the Dakar Rally and the Baja Middle East Cup’s first round in Hail, alongside his brother Abdulaziz.
His decision to step away, while tough, seems driven by a desire to focus on family and his role at beIN Sports, reflecting a natural shift after such a storied run.
Initially, Al-Kuwari had planned to retire in 2024, but his passion for the sport kept him going.
“My target was to stop last year, but it is not easy to leave rally racing,” he said.
His intention was to complete the current season alongside his cousin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, but Monday’s unexpected announcement brought those plans to an early halt.
The decision came as a shock to many in the rallying community, as Al-Kuwari is still widely regarded as one of the finest co-drivers in the sport.
“I always have to win races,” he added “It’s never just about participating. I compete to win.”
