DOHA (Qatar): Al Hilal won their maiden AFC Champions League with a 2-0 win over Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds in Saitama (Japan) on Sunday evening.
Salem Al Dawsari and Bafetimbi Gomis scored as the Saudi wrapped up the two-legged final with 3-0 aggregate.
Hilal became the first club from West Asia to win the title since Al Sadd’s victory in 2011.
They are also the first Saudi Arabian club to claim the trophy since Al Ittihad’s back-to-back triumphs in 2005.
The club had earlier lost inthe 2014 and 2017 finals, with the Saudis going down to Urawa two years ago.
But Razvan Lucescu’s side never looked like allowing anything similar to happen on Sunday in front of a boisterous crowd of 58,109 at a pulsating Saitama Stadium.
Al Dawsari scored the opening goal from close range 16 minutes from time while Gomis added the second in the injury time.
