CAPE TOWN: Seamer Mohammed Siraj took a career-best 6-15 as a total of 23 wickets fell in just over 80 overs on day one of the second and final test at Newlands on Wednesday.
South Africa were 62 for 3 and trails by 36 runs at Stumps.
Earlier, India skittled the hosts for 55 inside a session. India then lost six wickets without scoring a run in the space of 11 deliveries to be bundled out for 153, taking a lead of 98 runs. South Africa then came back to bat for the second time on the same day and lost three wickets.
Led by the superb Siraj, India’s seamers found the right line and length from the start as they ran through the home team’s batting line-up in 23.2 overs for South Africa’s lowest test total since 1932 after they had elected to bat.
