MUMBAI (India): Former India stars Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, Venkatesh Prasad, Sunil Joshi, Harvinder Singh and Rajesh Chauhan were shortlisted to interview with the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) for the two remaining vacant slots on the BCCI men’s national selection committee.
The CAC — which includes Madan Lal, RP Singh and Sulakshana Naik — shortlisted five candidates from 40 applicants which included the likes of Ajit Agarkar, Chetan Sharma and Nayan Mongia.
The chosen candidates will replace MSK Prasad and Gagan Khoda on the panel.
Sivaramakrishnan played nine Tests and 16 ODIs for India while Prasad featured in 33 Tests and 161 ODIs.
Harvinder, the former India pacer, played three Tests and 16 ODIs and is the least experienced of the lot.
Prasad has worked with the national team as a bowling coach before and has also served as a selector on the junior committee while his former Karnataka team-mate, Sunil Joshi, has worked with Bangladesh, USA and a few Ranji Trophy sides.
Until 2016, the committee consisted of one selector from each of the five zones but BCCI adopted the Lodha recommendation and rejected the zonal criteria.
The first task of the selection panel — which includes Sarandeep Singh, Devang Gandhi and Jatin Paranjape at this point — will be to pick the squad for the three-match home ODI series against South Africa.
The three members also held a meeting on Tuesday with BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, secretary Jay Shah and treasurer Arun Dhumal.
