CALCUTTA (India): Len Doungel played the role of a super sub after his goal in the added time on Thursday night rescued India to a 1-1 draw against Afghanistan in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Dushanbe (Tajikistan).
Both sides started off their Group F match well, battling it out in midfield.
But the Afghans opened the scoring before halftime when Zelfaqar beat goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.
The Indians were kept at bay for most part of the second half, until added time when Doungel scored via a Brandon Fernandes corner kick.
Doungel, who plays for FC Goa in ISL, came in for Pritam Kotal in the 76th minute.
The draw takes Afghanistan to four points while India are still awaiting their first win, having drawn two and lost one of their previous three matches.
