KOLKATA (India): Aizawl FC coach Yan Law exacted his ‘revenge’ after his side beat Mohammedan Sporting 3-0 in the I-League on Thursday.
The win was a sweet revenge for the 28-year-old Law, who was unceremoniously sacked by the Calcutta club after the team’s second match in the qualification tournament last October. Mohammedan started their I-League qualification campaign on a positive note with a 1-0 win over Garhwal and followed it with a 4-1 win against newcomers ARA FC.
Law, who hails from the city, was on cloud nine after A Malsawmtluanga opened the scoring in the first half against the local side.
This was followed by strikes from Lalremsanga and Lalliansanga in the second that helped the north-east side beat Mohammedan.
In what was a cagey half where both teams nullified each other in midfield and chances were at a premium, Aizawl started the game with their usual style of attacking football, while keeping possession and rotating the ball around the opponent’s penalty box.
In another match, Real Kashmir held Punjab FC to a 1-1 draw at the Kalyani Municipal Stadium in Kalyani.
Joseba Beitia’s penalty was cancelled out by eventual Hero of the Match Dipanda Dicka’s header, in an eventful second half which also saw two red cards.
The draw also stopped Punjab’s three-match winning streak.
