LUSAIL (Qatar): Defending champion Max Verstappen showed his exceptional skills on the track and successfully claimed the title FIA Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship for the third time at the FORMULA 1 QATAR GRAND PRIX 2023 on Saturday.
This feat marks Verstappen’s 13th win out of 16 races thus far and a historical record of 10 consecutive victories.
The 100km Sprint race is an exciting format where drivers can utilise their cars’ potential and gives fans a chance to witness exhilarating action on the track. In a thrilling turn of events Redbull’s Sergio Perez experienced a crash on track after striking Alpine’s Esteban Occon.
However, both drivers were safely recovered from the vehicles.
Prior to the Sprint race, FIA announced an additional 10-minute practice session.
The announcement was made to ensure the Sprint race is conducted safely, and the drivers are well-acquainted with the track. After the familiarisation session, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri took pole position at the Sprint shootout followed by Lando Norris (McLaren) and Max Verstappen (Redbull) respectively.
