PUNE (India): Ji So-yun’s late long-range stunner took Korea Republic into the semifinals of AFC Women’s Asian Cup with a 1-0 win over 2018 runners-up Australia at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Sunday.
An astonishing flying shot in the 85’ minute by Ji also clinched them a spot in 2023 FIFA World Cup.
The Koreans had ended their Group B campaign undefeated to finish runners-up behind defending champions Japan on goal difference.
Captain Kim Hye-ri is no stranger to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, having played in two previous tournaments, but India 2022 is her first time wearing the captain’s armband.
“The World Cup is a tournament every player dreams of. This is my third participation in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, but compared to the past, the players are more confident than ever about achieving something in this competition,” said Kim.
