DOHA: Japan on Friday won the mixed doubles gold at the Second Edition of WTT Star Contender Doha at the Lusail Multipurpose Hall.
Shunsuke Togami and Hina Hayata defeated South Koreans Jang Woo-jin and Jeon Ji-hee 11-6, 3-11, 11-2, 11-8 in the final.
The Japanese duo first advanced 11-6 in the first game, before the Koreans tied in the second by 11-3 winning, but Togami and Hayata excelled in the third and fourth meetings 11-2 and 11-8 to win the gold.
Hayata will return back tomorrow to face Jeon in the women’s singles semis.
It will be followed by the second semis between Ukrainian Margaryta Pesotska and Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi Kem.
In the men’s singles semis, South Korea’s Lee Sang-su face Slovenian Darko Gorgic while in the other last four Brazil’s Hugo Calderano will meet England’s Liam Pitchford.
